    We’ll see the Madison River and Dunraven Pass, before entering the Lamar Valley for wildlife viewing. After the Lamar Valley we’ll see Tower Falls before heading to Mammoth Hot Springs. Next, we explore the Sheepeater Cliffs, Swan Lake Flats and more!

    Let a local naturalist take you where the bus’ simply can’t go. This tour focus’ on wildlife viewing from the roadside; it is not an active tour.

    Tour includes a morning snack and hot drink, a hearty lunch with cold drinks, binoculars, group spotting scope for long distance wildlife viewing, and a professional guide/driver.

  • The Lower Loop Active Van Tour focuses on Yellowstone’s Hot Spots!

    We’ll see the Madison and Firehole Rivers before hiking to the famous Grand Prismatic Hot Spring Overlook. This is Yellowstone’s most photographed hot spring. After the hike, we’ll clean up at the Old Faithful Inn before watching her erupt. Next, we explore the shores of Yellowstone Lake before finishing up at the Lower Falls at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River.

    ●This is an ACTIVE tour with up to three miles of walking on well-maintained trails and boardwalks.

    ●Wildlife viewing stops can be made throughout the day, but are not the priority of this tour.

    This is an active van tour with options to hike up to three miles (some folks stay behind and look at the scenery). Our most difficult hike is 1.2 miles, with 150 feet elevation gain and loss. We do this hike in the cool morning while we’re fresh.

  • YHG active travelers are all fitness levels and ages!

    ●Our Upper Loop Van Tour is our easiest tour. We get in and out of the van for wildlife viewing opportunities. There is not much walking on this tour.

    ●Our Lower Loop Van Tour is an Active Van Tour with up to three miles of walking throughout the day. Our first hike is about one mile, with 150 feet elevation gain and loss. Our other hikes are shorter, and on boardwalks.

    ●6-80: We have found that six is the perfect age to begin to join our groups; and, 80 is the perfect age to join another tour group.

  • ●Parks Pass (or one can be purchased at the entrance gate)

    ●Water bottle (there are refill stations along the tour)

  • The best time to visit Yellowstone depends on your interests. Each of the distinct four seasons offers a different experience.

    Spring/Fall can be unpredictable; but July can throw a blizzard your way, too. Typically, May and June are cooler. July and August are warmer; and, September is a toss up.

    Yellowstone weather is a powerful force and visitors should be prepared for a variety of conditions depending on the time of year. ●Bring a rain jacket, extra fleece layer and warm hat no matter the time of year.●

    Yellowstone Hiking Guides makes the final call on canceling tours due to inclement weather.

    Please be aware that road closures occur frequently in Yellowstone during inclement weather. Please visit the National Park Service Web site for current road conditions.

  • Your guide knows where the best spots are! Let your guide know when you’ll need one, and a restroom will be visited!

    Your guide will be reminding you to drink water. Restroom breaks will be necessary.

  • Our typical group size is 8-10. Group sizes can be as large as 15.

  • YES!

    We have found over the years that 6-years-old and older is the perfect age to join our van tour.

    We do not offer child discounts, sorry!
